One More Nail
I do believe I've cleaned my sins My soul is of the purest white But when I sleep I feel the heat rise One more nail to save another life.
I do believe I'm going to heaven My heart is filled with love But when you whisper such deep secrets One more nail to damn my soul
I do believe I've killed a man My hands are stained red with blood But it was for the best, he won't be missed One more nail to keep me quiet
I do believe I've fallen in love My Lady is the prettiest girl in town But when she speaks I am filled with hate One more nail to stain my walls
I do believe I am a good man My intentions are always innocent But it's difficult when so many are still alive One more nail to hold me to my cross
I do believe I am chosen by god My mission is to cleanse the world of evil But that's quite hard to do when the devil is everywhere One more nail to send the lambs along.
I do believe I am misunderstood My fate has been halted in it's tracks But even in jackets and padded rooms God can find me One more nail to send me home
I wrote this a long time ago. I'm pretty proud of it. It kind of came out of nowhere one day. I think most of my poems suck, but I just like the topic and how it flows. I can just imagine the character confessing it all so proudly, so guilt-free. I hope you enjoyed it.

I do not think this poem sucks, I love it's rhythm and the words you choose, also the story it tells. We all hope to get to heaven but our hands are tainted with blood or sins... We all se ourselves as good, but while trying to do good to the world we might do something bad or even evil to others

Hm, that is a interesting interpretation of the poem, Lost. I believe it applies.
I wrote it about a religious fanatic that murders people in the name of god and is confessing his sins from a lunatic asylum.
But I think what you said still bears a lot of meaning to it. It's interesting how people draw different meaning from the same story.

Basically, I am a total n00b at poetry interpretation, sorry XDDD But still, i love the original meaning too, as I am reading right now about such an individual in the manga Berserk. And he is the kind that literally makes the bows as he prayes by hitting his face to the floor..

Yes, that interpurtion is valid. Poetry isn't always about what the athour meant the poem to be about, it's beauty in the fact it's absact is everyone can apply their own meaning.
It's main theme is faith and how it can go to exetmes, rather it be to richen one's soul in thier trust in god, dispiste what they believe they have to do or if it's just an illousion instead of true enlightenment.
