Well, I think a tattoo should be meaningful to you and be beautiful to you. I also think picking the right tattoo artist is important and not just walking any old pallor and letting any old person with a tattooing needle go to work on you. Even though you've already had tattoos in the past, you should do research on artist in your area. Ask your friends with ink and see who they like. Since it's letting you're interested in, look at artists work that have a lot of lettering in them and ones that suite your style. There are a lot of tattoo's I've seen with thick, ugly, nearly unreadable lettering. It's a special skill to create delicate lines with a tattooing needle. I have only one tattoo and I love it dearly. I designed it myself and spent several hours online before deciding on the perfect artist to create it. I sent her the drawing I made, she made a flash and I had it done hours before seeing HIM live on 4/20/09. It was my 18th birthday/ graduation present. It was a magical experience. The meaning of the tattoo is beyond just my love of the band and what their music has done for me. It's bandage of honor, an example of grownth into the person I've become and how person pain and drama has helped that happen. That pain only makes me stronger, wiser. The vines are of course the personal growth, the purple rose is me, and the blood drops are the great dramas and pains of my life that have helped shaped me. It being a heartagram is simply because HIM's music has helped keep me sane and alive through all of it, along with it's a symbol of balance, of love and hate and it just completes the image perfectly.

I totally agree with Violet, the artist is very important. I wish I had a tattoo too, but they are awfully expensive and the thing is that until I'd decide on something it would take ages. I could desighn it myself, just as Vi did, but still... the deciding part is awfully hard so i guess I am not really ready for a tattoo yet... I would not be scared of the pain the needle gives...

Tattoos do cost a lot, but when you think of the time that goes into it and the fact it's personal art that will stay with you forever...I think it's worth it. Mine is smaller, and it was only 200 and fifty dollars. That was including the tip.
It doesn't really hurt that bad. The pain comes and goes. It depends also on where you get it. It builds and you think "this really hurts," than fades and your like, "psh, this is nothing." than it builds again and your eyes start watering. It's actually an interesting experience that I value having gone through and can't wait to experience again.

I'm dying to get a tattoo but the pain keeps me from doing it. I don't handle pain very well, so I'm in a constant struggle over whether I ought to get it or not.

Yes, I remember you saying that your dad has some tattoos, Lucy. Still, the pain factor would not be a problem, been through a lot, a little pain I can go trough

I go to a wicked tattooist in the town I live. They're really good and it's not too expensive. I usually get my tattoos as birthday presents from my parents, but I dunno if i can wait 'til july. lol
I agree that it's super important for it to mean something, you're gonna have it forever after all. That's why I ask other people what they think and I usually have an idea in my mind which grows and evolves until i finally decide to go get it done. I don't usually tell people what mine mean. people think I'm crazy enough as it is without any encouragement.

Okay then I will tell:
The 2 stars on my hand were to kinda celebrate reaching 18 without killing myself. Brutal but true. They're on my hand so that they can't be covered up. I don't wanna hide.
The ankh with angel wings and the sun rising behind is a memorial for my grandparents. My mum has a tattoo in the same place for the same thing too.
The 3 feathers are also in a design with some stars and they represent the feathers that are left behind when an angel visits. As well as freedom in flight and looking to the heavens. (but not in a Christian way)
The lotr sword and evenstar is my newest tattoo. I wanted something special for my 21st. Lotr is kinda my comfort book, I just pick it up whenever I'm sad and read a bit you know? The sword is like Aragorn's because the verses with that character mean alot to me. It just touches some universal truth for me.
All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.
I also have the evenstar necklace, my step dad bought it for me a while ago. I love it so much, but I know I won't be able to wear it forever so now I can.
Also I wanted a sword or a dagger because (deep breath and prepare for laughter...) in my imagination depression and such are like zombies kinda eating at pieces of your mind and destroying them. So I have a sword to kill them with now.

Well, nothing weird for me there, honey. Really, you are pretty normal. I love life too and it is very nice that you made the stars to remind you that and to celebrate such a beautiful gift. And you cherish your ancestors (grandparents), that is honorable. By the way, love the lord of the rings quote, I like it a lot, really. I myself am fond of axes. Don't ask me why, and it is a weird thing for a girl to like, but I had several times axes as my avatars on messengerXD I used to put there 'an ax for an ex' and my ex-es would all come and say: is that ax for me? That amused me a lot...

You have great, meanful reasons for your tattoos and in no way are they strange.
I personally can realte to wanting to celabrate not harmning myself, (or going father...) anymore. I have plans to have heartshaped razorblades tattooed on my wrists, just before it becomes my arm. I know it's a bit clihc, but it's imporant to me and it will cover up my scars. It's kind of an irony, as my hands durring times of depression along with cutting myself and 'attemping' sudcice, I've destoryed all my writting and art work. I want to make my hands mine again, and have the razorblades be a reminder of the pain that I caused myself when I did such things, to myself and others, so when I'm in that space of mind I'll hopefully restrain myself.

I think it's good to have something to give you strength. A tattoo is great coz it's right there on your body and it'll be there no matter what. I'm gonna wait until me b'day to get 'born this way' done. Hopefully by then I'll know what font and size to have it and everything.
