Alex cursed himself and the bastards that invented cars, as his old Hoda truck spruered, coughed black smoke and finally died. Running his hands through his shoulder-length ebony curls, he sighed heavily and leaned his sweaty forehead on the steering wheel. He needed to get out of this damn city, and he need to get some real sleep.
Tossing his head back against the fake leather seat, he closed his eyes and tried to remember the last time he's slept more than two hours at a time. He strained to recall when the nightmares didn't plauge his dreaming mind, ripping him from his sleep, screaming like an infant into the darkness, limbs failing at unseen foes.
It hadn't been but a week since Darlene had kicked him out for beating the crap out of her in his sleep. His stomach turned to think that he could have acutally beat a woman and not even known or realized he was doing it. He didn't feel any anger towards her for her coldness. He would have done the same thing in her place. Alex inhaled sharply, thinking of the purplish black eye and serval scrathes that decorated her face. She wouldn't even let him see what he did to the rest of her body.
Alex had always thought of himself as a romantic, yet he didn't even think his heart was broken over losing Darlene. He felt unspeakable guilt for what he had done to her, but was his heart broken? He didn't think so...That fact only added to the guilt.
Giving up on his truck, Alex opened the door and slid out into the breezy, night air. Cars zoomed passed him on the freeway, the bright lights and the sounds making him feel even more disortated. He zipped his leather jacket up and stuffed his hands in his pockets, and started walking along the road.
Alex felt and heard a car slowing down behind him, it pulled up and parked in the shoulder five feet in front of him. It was a cherry red sports car, maybe a mustang, Alex couldn't really tell as he hated cars and knew little about them. He felt a strange tingling in his gut as he aporched the car, a littling he recalled having in his dreams right before everything started to go horribly wrong.
The passinger window rolled down as Alex stood beside the car and wondered if they thought he was a streetwalker, or if they just wanted to help. He trusted his insints when it came to ify sitatuions and so far he'd lived through what most people would call, "a reckless life".
The driver appeared to be alone, which was a plus, and it appeared to be a young man with aburn curls and wide, thoughtful, brown eyes. Something about those eyes was slightly unsettling, the face was smooth, white and flawless like marble when the eyes told a very different story. They belonged to someone much older, wiser, someone who did not drive sports cars and pick up strange men walking along the side of the freeway.
"Do you need assince? It's very cold tonight and a bit dangerous to being walking along a busy freeway in all black so late at night, don't you think?" The driver's voice was very musical, a distant accent he couldn't place, Alex frowned,
"You have a good point there, are you offering me a ride? If you are, it's not that I'm not thankful for the thought...but I'm not quite sure where I'm headed so...I couldn't give you a place to drop me off." The driver raised an eyebrow.
"You assume that I know where I am going? I too am just wandering, shall we wander together?" Alex took a step back.
"I hate to bust your bubble, but how can I trust you?"
"You haven't slept well for over a year, and when you do sleep you dream of blood. Am I correct?" Alex felt cold ice fill his stomach.
"H-how did you know that?"
"Because I am...not entirely normal, but you'll know more the more we learn about eachother. Why not get in the car? Your shivering." Alex glanced around himself and slowly opened the door to the car and got inside.
And than....?
