I have recently discovered that the quantity, and indeeed the quality, of horror novels seems to be dwindling. My local library has narrowed their horror section to just one, half empty, rack. I have been forced (forced i tell you) to look at other genres. I am now reading some science fiction novels and I have discovered an author called Charles Stross. His work is amazing and I just wanted to recommend him to you guys. Especially 'The atrocity arcives' and 'glasshouse' If anyone has any good authors to tell me about I would love to hear. I am running out of stuff to read pretty quickly.lol

Have you tried going back to some of the classics? I would highly recommend "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. The main character is extremely likeable, not to mention sexy (in my opinion). It's a great novel to read, too, because it's got a great message in it and tons and tons of symbolism.

It's so depressing to watch shops replace horror with comics or even worse general fiction. The amount of doctor who style books just seems to be multiplying as well. -.-

I do not like that much reading sf. I'd rather read a novel that does not have an interesting story than sf, because there are very few authors out there that really deserve to b published. Instead, I love sf series like Andromeda (created by Gene Roddanberry, same person who created Star Treck). I wish Roddanberry was a novelist and I'd be obsessed over his books

I agree, it is hard to find decent authors. Alot of fantasy novels all seem the same to me. I don't think alot of fantasy authors should be published. I can't be bothered with huge epic stories about saving the world that take up 6 books and have about 50 main charcters. The only one I can stand is The Lord of The Rings, which I love, but nothing else is as good.

It is long, especially the ending, but it's worth it. The second movie is better than the first though.
